To document the real activity in the electricity market conventional annual-based certificates are not good enough since e.g. consumption in December can be made seemingly “green”, through compensation with certificates from renewable electricity production in e.g. May.
Keima takes advantage of the more precise and detailed Energy Track and Trace models, which includes location, timestamps and a resolution down to Wh instead of the normal MWh. This provides a more real picture of when the renewable electricity has been produced, allowing Keima to more accurately match it up with consumption, providing a higher quality mapping. This makes the effect significantly bigger from buying certificates as part of the CSR compensation.
The expectation is better documentation for business or private consumers who want to track their energy origin and offset their consumption. While it can generate an increased return for the renewable electricity producer since they can sell their surplus certificates through Keima. The exact return price is uncertain currently since the markets have not yet been established, but current expectation is a return of 0,05-0,15 kr/kWh, though the price will vary depending on season (there are more certificates available in e.g. May, than in December).
