The electricity grid in Denmark needs to be kept close to 50Hz at all times. To achieve this, consumers and producers can help Energinet (the Danish TSO) to balance the grid, by either turning production or consumption on or off, or by utilizing storage such as batteries. This can generate a significant increased return on e.g. a battery compared to just optimizing production and consumption.
The need for balancing services, or ancillary services as it is also called, is expected to increase in the future since energy production is changing to be more dependent on when the sun is shining and the wind is blowing. This creates a higher uncertainty on electricity production, while we are seeing a rapid growth in electricity consumption.
Keima can support asset owners by aggregating batteries and other assets to participate in balancing the markets, leveraging the business case applicable for the specific setup.
The business case varies, depending on asset type, size, location, and connection, but in general Keima sees an ROI increase of 10-200%pt when combined with the submeter solution.
For qualification there are some further requirements to the setup and connection types.
